Teamwork: An Integrative Approach to Healthcare

CAPTION: October 2021

When it comes to healthcare, an integrative approach is often the best approach. There are many benefits of having a dedicated team of health experts looking after you. Each brings their own expertise and knowledge yet works collaboratively with the same goal in mind – to improve your health and wellbeing.

Your healthcare team may include a naturopath or nutritionist working in conjunction with a general practitioner and/or specialist doctors, while many also seek support from allied health professionals such as acupuncturists, chiropractors, osteopaths and physiotherapists.

How can you help your team work together?

Being transparent about seeing a number of different health professionals and facilitating communication between both medical and allied health practitioners can help the team to work cohesively for greater patient outcomes.

It is also important to discuss with your healthcare providers what medications and natural supplements you are taking. Nutrients and herbs have the potential to interact with medications and in some cases, dosages or the times of taking medications/supplements may need adjusting. Some medications may also increase the need for certain nutrients, highlighting the importance of checking for interactions and working with your team to ensure you receive the best of care.
